Brandy Thomas - High School Athlete Honorees - 2015

Brandy Thomas left her mark on the walls of Ludington's Hawley Gymnasium and all anyone had to do was look at the track record book. Thomas set new school records in the discus and shot put numerous times throughout her high school career while also participating in volleyball and basketball. She is a four-time Lakes 8 Activities Conference champion in the shot put and a four-time state qualifier in the event. She finished as the state runner-up twice in the shot put, in 2014 and 2015. She also is a two-time league champion in the discus and once was the runner-up. At the West Michigan All-Star Invitational, Thomas won the shot put three times and set new records in her final two seasons competing there. She also won the discus at the meet three years in a row. She has finished as high as fourth at the state meet in discus, that in her junior year. In volleyball, she lettered three years and earned honorable mention all-conference honors twice. As a basketball player, she earned honorable mention honors during her junior year. Thomas owned a 3.247 grade point average and is involved in several school and community activities. She has earned the Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards while volunteering with the Ludington Triathlon, the Ludington Gus Macker, at Tendercare, at the Mason County Public Library, with Toys for Tots and at Spectrum Health. She is the daughter of Lester and Lorna Thomas. She will be going to Illinois State University where she has a scholarship to be on the Redbirds' track and field team.
