Matt Flutur - High School Athlete Honorees - 2005

Mason County Central's football team was 7-4 in 2004 and advanced to the Division V district finals for the first time, due in large part to the quarterbacking of Matt Flutur. The senior athlete of the year at MCC, Flutur played football for four years, basketball for four years, baseball for one year and track and field for three years. He won his school's "Mr. Spartan" Award in basketball and football during the 2004-05 school year. Flutur was all-conference in basketball in 2004 and earned academic all-conference honors in football, basketball and track. Headed to Grand Valley State University where he will play football on a full-ride scholarship, Flutur earned first-team all-conference honors in football in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and quarterbacked the Spartans to the second round of the state playoffs for the first time last fall. He was also an all-area selection and an all-state honorable mention in football in 2004 and was an Academic All-Stater in basketball and football. Flutur's grade point average was 4.0 and he was a member of the National Honor Society, the student council and president of his class. "I have had the privilege of coaching Matt for three years in basketball and he has always been a very hard-working and dedicated student-athlete," said Tim Genson, MCC's basketball coach. "Matt has always excelled in the classroom and in the athletic arena, but has made his grades his number one priority. Matt is a worthy candidate for this award."
