Bud Dodson - MCSHOF Inductee - 2016

Thirty years ago, Bud Dodson became involved in Special Olympics. In the span of 10 years, he became the Area 24 Special Olympics Director. In that span, and beyond, he guided the group from a $6,000 a year budget to one that has $34,000 for more than 115 athletes. Dodson's teams played in three seasons in a variety of sports: cycling, poly hockey, cross country skiing, basketball, aquatics, track and field, bowling, bocce ball, horseshoes, snow shoeing and soccer. While the athletes competed, Dodson coached them. Dodson coordinated newsletters while also documenting all the scores and times. He certified more than 60 coaches around Michigan and chaired the board. Dodson's work with charity didn't end with Special Olympics, either. He was involved in building homes through Habitat for Humanity and the local boy scouts. In 2010, Dodson received Ludington's Community Service Award.
