Greg Melchert - MCSHOF Inductee - 2015

Greg Melchert was an outstanding baseball and football player as well as wrestler at Mason County Central, and he found his greatest success in baseball. He played at Western Michigan and went on to pitch in the Detroit Tigers farm system for Lakeland and Utica. He was an All-State special mention in baseball. He was a three-time state qualifier in wrestling, finishing fourth as an individual and he was a member of the 1979 state runner-up team. Following his stint in the minors, Melchert had an outstanding fastpitch softball career, having been named an ASA All-American seven times and invited to play twice on USA national softball teams. He played on four state title teams locally and a handful of national and world title teams with the Midland Explorers. He is an inductee of the Manistee Saints Hall of Fame and the Michigan ASA Hall of Fame.
